Project 3: Inspiration
My next project is inspired by the forms and patterns of coral reefs. There are many artists who have done work inspired by reefs.
I really like haw all the forms and colors compliment each other in this piece. I also like the layers that have been built up. I also plan on hanging my piece on the wall so this is a great inspiration piece.
I really admire the attention to detail and variety in this piece.
This is a great example of unusual materials. This reef is made entirely of yarn that has bee knitted or crocheted to make the forms.
I plan to use reclaimed and recycled materials for a majority of my reef. I want to experiment with creating forms out of mixed media also. I want to stay in a neutral or muted color pallet.
Project 2: Critique
For the critique I also created a little lonely figure for the pigs to circle around. I was trying to convey the idea of being defeated by your dreams. I used the whimsical pigs as a kind of absurd/ fantastic vulture. The overwhelming response was that I was trying to incorporate too many ideas. I also need to let my sculpture sort of speak for itself more.

Project 2: Finishing
The fallen wing was reattached with epoxy and the pigs were sand blasted to remove the rest of the ceramic shell. I then polished each pig with sand paper and steel wool.

Project 2: Aluminum casting
Here are some pictures and a video of the second set of casts. I pulled the ceramic molds out of the kiln and then molten aluminum was poured into the molds.
